Mario "The Zen Machine" Sperry is considered one of the greatest
Brazilian fighters of all time. An accomplished master of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he first broke on the sport
Jiu-Jitsu scene back in the early eighties. He dominated every belt division as he rose through the ranks to
Black Belt.
A prodigy of the legendary Carlson Gracie, Mario was handed his black belt at the 1995 World Championships
of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu were he entered and won the heavyweight black belt division defeating many of the
sports greatest legends. Copying a Tiger Woods of Jiu-Jitsu story, Mario won again in 1996, 1997, 1998 becoming
one of the most successful fighters in Sport Jiu-Jitsu history to date.
In late 1998, Mario Sperry became the first fighter in history to make a Gracie submit in a mach when he defeated
legendary World Champion Royler Gracie in Brazil. As a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu fighter, Mario has made his mark in
all forms of grappling. He is well known for his accomplishments in Submission Grappling for becoming the
first World Submission Grappling Champion, a title he held for three consecutive years. As a Vale-Tudo fighter,
Mario Sperry's accomplishments are known around the globe, from Australia to America.
He has fought on pay per view and is a featured fighter on the Japanese no holds barred fighting event,
"Coliseum".
